MTN is about to change the way we use direct USSD access to banking services by introducing new charges to it.
As you’ll now be charged for any USSD activities you perform ranging from dialing USSD code to recharge your line, buy data, or even generating Token for your Prepaid Meter using.
MTN Group Limited, formerly M-Cell, is a South African multinational mobile telecommunications company, operating in many African, European and Asian countries. Its head office is in Johannesburg.
The Telecommunication provider, MTN sent subscribers a notification of the impending charges which will take effect from 21st of October 2019. I also got the message from MTN also.
Here is what the message says:
MTN New charges:
Having read the above statement made by MTN, it has being confirmed you will now be charged for any transaction done with USSD code beginning from 21st October 2019.
We are not sure if this is peculiar to a bank or to all the banks. But according to a user on Nairaland, who recharged N200 MTN Airtime from UBA using USSD code, he claimed to be charged N48.
Here was the users statement on Nairaland:
” I received no such sms but just yesterday, for a 200 naira worth of airtime from MTN I purchased through UBA, I was surcharged 48 naira. Not until now did I fathom the reason for that deduction. Chai !!”
But according to the News from MTN sending its users the charges, they claimed you will be charged N4 per seconds.
