How to Use WhatsApp QR Codes to Add Contacts Connecting with others on WhatsApp can sometimes be a bit of a hassle. Adding someone as a contact on your phone is easy enough, but then you have to enter their number, save it, find them on WhatsApp, and start a conversation.
Fortunately, WhatsApp has introduced QR codes to simplify this process. By scanning someone’s unique QR code, you can easily add them to your friends or contacts list on WhatsApp.
And the best part is, you don’t need to download a third-party app to use WhatsApp QR codes. The functionality is built right into WhatsApp. In this tutorial, we will walk you through the steps of how to use WhatsApp QR codes to add contacts to your chat list. But first, let’s take a closer look at what WhatsApp QR codes actually are.
What are WhatsApp QR Codes?
WhatsApp QR codes are symbols that can be scanned to quickly add new contacts without having to manually enter their phone numbers. When you scan a QR code, WhatsApp will give you the option to save the contact directly. Once saved, you can immediately start chatting with them.
There are three types of WhatsApp QR codes: personal QR codes, group QR codes, and WhatsApp Web codes. Each type serves a specific purpose. The personal QR code is used to add individual contacts, while the group QR code is used to invite new members to a group.
For the purposes of this explanation, we will focus on the personal QR code. The WhatsApp Web code is a separate type of code that is used to log in to WhatsApp Web on a desktop device.
Using WhatsApp QR codes to add contacts is a simple process that can be broken down into three steps.
Step 1: Set up your personal QR code
To set up your personal QR code, open WhatsApp and go to Settings > QR code. Here, you will see your own unique QR code. You can also customize your QR code by tapping on the three dots in the top right corner and selecting “My QR code”. From here, you can choose a background color and add a profile photo to your QR code.
Step 2: Share your WhatsApp QR code
Once you have set up your personal QR code, you can share it with others by tapping on the “Share” button. This will give you the option to share your QR code via WhatsApp, email, or any other messaging app. You can also print out your QR code and share it in person.
Step 3: Scan the QR code
To add a contact using their QR code, simply open WhatsApp and tap on the “QR code” icon in the top right corner. This will open your camera, allowing you to scan the QR code. Once you have scanned the code, WhatsApp will automatically add the contact to your list and open a chat window.
How to Use WhatsApp QR Codes to Add Contacts
Step 1: Create a WhatsApp QR Code for your number
Go to WhatsApp settings On the settings menu, tap on the QR code icon next to your name.
Upon accessing the QR code screen, your unique QR code will be displayed.
Should you be in the presence of someone you wish to add, they can conveniently scan the code directly.
Step 2: Share WhatsApp QR Codes with Others
To share your WhatsApp QR code with others, there are two options available. The first option is to capture a screenshot of the QR code screen. The second option is to use the built-in sharing feature within WhatsApp.
To use the sharing feature, open WhatsApp and go to Settings > QR code. From there, tap on the “Share” button to bring up the sharing options. You can choose to share the QR code via email, various messaging apps like Facebook Messenger, Telegram, or even WhatsApp itself.
If the person you want to add is with you in person, they can simply scan the QR code directly from your phone. This can be done by opening the WhatsApp camera and pointing it at the QR code on your screen. Once the QR code is scanned, WhatsApp will automatically add the contact to your list and open a chat window.
Step 3: Add Whatsapp contacts using QR Codes
Go to WhatsApp settings From the WhatsApp settings menu, tap on the QR code icon next to your name.
Select the scan option
Choose the QR code screenshot from your gallery or point the phone camera toward the QR code on another screen. Just like that, the contact will be added to your WhatsApp.
When you regenerate your WhatsApp QR code, the old code will be deleted immediately and replaced with a new one. This means that anyone who previously had access to your old QR code will no longer be able to add you as a contact using that code.
You will receive an on-screen confirmation that the previous QR code has been deleted, and you will be shown the new code. It’s important to share the new code with anyone you want to add as a contact on WhatsApp. This can be done by using the sharing feature within WhatsApp or by having the person scan the QR code directly from your phone.
