Apple’s latest Smartphone, the iPhone 13 Pro Max Vs Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G – A legendary battle, I know. Both of these companies have been rivals for what seems like forever, and I’ve taken it upon myself to make an unbiased comparison between their latest Smartphone devices.
Both the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G and the Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max appear to feature only slight differences from their predecessors, which gives them both a lot in common. However, if you look closer, you’ll see that the upgrades have made them more attractive and have created an interesting contest.
Apple’s iPhone 13 Pro Max significantly increased battery life while continually improving its processing capability, which now includes a powerful neural engine, to close the main weakness in the previous iPhone’s armor. The main camera on the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G received a much-needed upgrade, and it still boasts one of the greatest mobile displays available. It also features a form factor that fits perfectly in a pocket.
Now, who would prevail in a contest between the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G and the iPhone 13 Pro Max? The margin between Samsung and Apple has been decreasing, and at this point, it may be the smallest we’ve ever seen. To assist you in choosing which one is best for you, I’ll compare them below based on pricing, design, performance, video quality, display, cameras, and more. Let’s go.
iPhone 13 Pro Max Vs Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G – Pricing!
The iPhone 13 Pro Max starts at $1099 for a 128GB model with 6GB of RAM. You can also upgrade to 256GB or 512GB of storage. In comparison, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G is priced at $1,199 for a 256GB model.
You can see that the iPhone 13 Pro Max is just a little bit cheaper when compared with the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G. But, the Samsung gives you a 256GB model, which is significantly higher than what you would get with the iPhone 13 Pro Max.
iPhone 13 Pro Max Vs Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G – Design!
Both of these phones, as stated at the beginning of this article, virtually adhere unwaveringly to their predecessor’s style. But given how drastically different each phone’s designs from last year were, that’s okay. It’s ridiculous to expect yearly redesigns, given the distinctive and cozy designs Apple and Samsung come up with.
It should come as no surprise that the highest models from each manufacturer, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G, and the iPhone 13 Pro Max, both have outstanding designs. They are nearly the same size, with the S22 Ultra 5G being a tiny bit taller and 10g lighter when compared with the Pro Max. Their shapes, however, are very different.
While the S22 Ultra 5G has slightly rounded sides that give it a more striking and elegant appearance, the Pro Max opts for curved corners but a flat display. In contrast to the iPhone’s lenses, which form a somewhat large block on the back of the phone.
The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G lacking a notch on its display, guaranteed Samsung a win in the design category. The Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G’s punch hole is less distracting compared with the iPhone 13 Pro Max’s reduced but still discernible notch.
iPhone 13 Pro Max Vs Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G – Cameras and Lenses
Looking at the specs alone, it’s the Samsung S22 Ultra has the better camera and lens lineup. It has a “main” camera that boasts a 108-megapixel resolution and an f/1.8 lens. There’s also a 10-megapixel ultra-wide-angle f/4.9 lens. On top of that, you also get digital zoom – called “Space Zoom” that gives you up to 100x zoom.
In contrast, the iPhone 13 Pro Max “seems” a lot more lacking in comparison. It has a 12-megapixel sensor, and you get a “standard” (f/1.5, 26mm), an ultra-wide (13mm, f/1.8), as well as a 3x lens (78mm, f/2.8). Its digital zoom allows you to go up to 15x.
iPhone 13 Pro Max Vs Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G – Video Specifications
Both the S22 Ultra and the iPhone 13 Pro have attractive video specifications.
The iPhone 13 provides 4K60p video plus certain video modes such as cinema mode (which provides the ability to create shallow depth effects, but only when you’re in full HD) and ProRes video. It also features Sensor-shift optical image stabilization (this cannot be turned off) is used to maintain smooth video footage during filming.
The S22 Ultra 5G beats the iPhone 13 Pro Max by offering 8K Video recording via its image stabilization system, and it’s also only available when you’re recording in Full HD, but unlike the iPhone 13 Pro max, this can be turned off. It also features a shallow depth of field video option called “Portrait video.”
iPhone 13 Pro Max Vs Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G – Display!
The S22 Ultra 5G has a 6.8in (1440 x 3088) display, and the iPhone 13 Pro Max has a display measuring 6.7in (1284 x 2778). They both have exceptional AMOLED displays. The S22 Ultra 5G’s display is only a little bit brighter and covers more of the sRGB color gamut and the DCI-P3 color space.
Apple’s panel does seem to provide more correct colors. The Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G, however, does provide the choice to pick out among a Vivid or Natural profile. For this category, I’ll be calling it a draw!
iPhone 13 Pro Max Vs Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G – Battery Life!
Apple has had a very bad reputation for its poor battery life on its long line of iPhones for some time. It’s made decent strides with its most recent models, and they usually last at least a full day with reasonably average usage.
Despite its improvement with a 4,352 mAh battery life on the iPhone 13 Pro Max, you’ll probably do better with the Samsung S22 Ultra, which boasts of a massive 5000mAh battery: fairly average usage on the Samsung should last two days before you need to charge it.
iPhone 13 Pro Max Vs Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G – Accessories!
Both Samsung and iPhone offer wireless charging capabilities, and iPhone is also compatible with ultra-fast MagSafe chargers, which are sold separately.
It is also worth mentioning that the Samsung S22 Ultra 5G comes with an “S Pen.” This has been inherited from Samsung’s “Note” series and can be used to trigger the shutter remotely, making it extremely useful for selfies and group snaps.
iPhone 13 Pro Max Vs Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G – Performance!
The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G sports a Qualcomm SM8450 Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 (4nm) processor, which offers a noticeable increase in performance over its predecessor.
But, the iPhone 13 Pro Max’s A15 Bionic (5nm) chip outperforms it in benchmarking tool tests, including Geekbench 5’s single-core and multi-core tests and 3DMark Wild Life. However, in actual use, I struggle to find a clear and consistent difference, and at times the Galaxy S22 Ultra actually feels faster than the iPhone 13 Pro Max. But anyway, I’ll be giving this one to the iPhone 13 Pro Max.
